Upper Deck Steve Smith and Tyrone Corbin Mix-Up (Error Cards)

Below are 1992-93 Upper Deck error cards of Steve Smith (card #110) and Tyrone Corbin (card #100). The team name “Jazz” was printed across the top of Smith’s card and the team name “Heat” was printed across the top of Corbin’s card. These errors were eventually corrected. Upper Deck 2006-07 #087/199 Pau Gasol (Error Card)

The “Sweet Swatches” card spells Pau Gaol’s first name incorrectly on the front as “Pao”. However, the back of the card does spell his name correctly. After searching eBay I couldn’t find a correct version of this card. I’m assuming a correct version of this card was never printed. After the cards were released it wouldn’t make sense to correct them since they have pieces of game-worn jerseys in them and only a limited run of the cards (199) were printed.

1999-00 Upper Deck #298 Tracy McGrady (Error Card)

The card on the left incorrectly lists Tracy McGrady’s last name as “Anderson” and incorrectly states his team name as the “Los Angeles Clippers.” This card was obviously the base sheet for Clippers’ guard Derek Anderson and McGrady’s information was mistakenly printed on it. As of today I haven’t been able to find a Derek Anderson error card with McGrady’s info on it. The card on the right is the correct card. Click here for other error cards.

1990-91 Hoops #298 Tom Hammonds (Variation Card)

The Tom Hammonds card on the left is missing the rookie logo in the upper right hand corner. This is considered a variation and not an error since no facts have been misstated. Check out more error and variation cards here.

The Upper Deck Michael Jordan-Dominique Wilkins Mix-Up (Error Cards)

Michael Jordan and Dominique Wilkins are both two-time NBA Slam Dunk Champions. Michael Jordan was the first player ever to win the title back to back in 1987 and 1988. Dominique Wilkins won his first title in 1985 followed by his second title in 1990. Upper Deck commemorated these feats by printing “In Your Face” Slam Dunk Championship cards in the 1992-93 basketball card set. Below are two error cards that were printed with the set. The Michael Jordan card on the left incorrectly states in the upper right hand corner that he won the slam dunk championship in “1985, 1990″ and the Dominique Wilkins card on the left incorrectly states that he won the slam dunk championship in “1987, 1988.” These are both errors. The correct version of the cards are on the right and correctly state in the upper right hand corner that MJ won the title in “1987,1988″ and Dominique won the title in “1985,1990.” All cards that I post I scan in from my own collection. Top Five NBA Players That Have Donned Number Double Zero

The number zero literally means nothing. However, for these five players, even though they wore number double zero (00), they weren’t double nothing. They meant something to the teams that they played for. Here are the top 5 players that have donned the number 00. Keep in mind only 25 players have worn number 00 in NBA history.

Robert Parish. Parish was inducted into the Hall of Fame as a player in 2003. He made 9 all-star game appearances and won 4 NBA Championships (’81, ’84′, and ’86 with the Celtics and ’97 with the Bulls). Parish wore number 00 for the entirety of his career with 4 different teams (Warriors, Celtics, Hornets, and Bulls) from ’76-97.
Tony Delk. Tony Delk isn’t a name you hear often in NBA circles. Delk’s position on this list is attributed to the fact that he is a member of the illustrious 50-Point Club. On January 2, 2001 as a member of the Phoenix Suns, Delk dropped 53 points on the Kings shooting 20-27 from the field in an overtime game. Now that’s an impressive field goal percentage. Delk played for 9 different teams from ’96-06 and wore number 00 on six of those teams.
Kevin Duckworth. This man born April 1st is no fool. As a rookie member of the Spurs in ’87 Kevin Duckworth wore number 54. The next year and for the remainder of his career he made the audacious switch to number 00. Duckworth made 2 all-star game appearances (’89 and ’91) and was the ’87-88 NBA Most Improved Player. He played for 5 different teams in a career that spanned 13 seasons long from ’86-97. He is most well-known for being a member of the Portland Trailblazers, specifically the ’91-92 Blazers team that lost to Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls in the ’92 NBA Finals.
Greg Ostertag. Ostertag never won any accolades or made any all-star game appearances. With that being said, he was a great role player to have on your squad. He did the dirty work down low for the Stockton and Malone Jazz teams, blocking shots and grabbing boards. He was a member of the Jazz teams that lost to the Chicago Bulls in the ’97 and ’98 NBA Finals. Ostertag’s career spanned 11 seasons long from ’95-06. He wore number 00 for 8 of his 10 seasons as a member of the Utah Jazz and 1 season as a member of the Sacramento Kings. He wore number 39 as a member of the Jazz in ’00 and ’01.
Benoit Benjamin. Honrobale mention goes to Benoit Benjamin for his 15 season career (’85-00) in which he played for 9 different teams. He wore number 00 on 6 of those teams. You have to hand it to anyone that can last that long in the league, superstar or not.

Lakers Orlando Woolridge Error Card

Above is an Orlando Woolridge 1989-90 Hoops #279 error card. The error card is the card on the left because it is missing the “TM” next to the Lakers logo. The card on the right is correct and has the “TM” next to the Lakers logo.

Orlando Woolridge signed as an unrestricted free agent with the Los Angeles Lakers August 10, 1988 and was subsequently traded to the Denver Nuggets August 3, 1990. Woolridge played college ball at the University of Notre Dame and was drafted by the Chicago Bulls as the 6th overall pick of the 1981 NBA draft. He has career averages of 16 points and 4 rebounds per game.

The front of both cards are correct and have no errors.

Utah Jazz Bear Proposes to Ryan Seacrest’s Girlfriend

A daily vlogger on YouTube named Shay Carl recently attended a Utah Jazz home game. Like any good vlogger, Shay had his camera ready when the Utah Jazz mascot “Jazz Bear” proposed to Ryan Seacrest’s girlfriend Julianne Hough.

According to Shay, the Jazz Bear dressed a security guard up like a priest, went over to where Seacrest and Hough were sitting courtside and got on one knee. The Bear then got up, shook Julianne’s head as if she were saying yes, picked her up and took her down the tunnel. Shay also says Seacrest just stood there as if he didn’t know what to do. Check all of this out in the video below starting at the 13:44 mark.

If you’re wondering why the celebrity couple was attending a Jazz home game it’s because Julianne grew up in a suburb of Salt Lake City.

George Hill Explains the Logic Behind Wearing Jersey Number 3

I am always fascinated why players choose the numbers they do. I asked Spurs guard George Hill via Twitter why he wears Number 3. Here was his answer:

If I am interpreting this right, he wears Number 3 because his grandfather was born on the 3rd and because there are only 3 people in his family: him, his mom, and his dad. As you can see, family is very important to Hill. Every night he takes the court he is representing them by wearing Number 3 across his chest.

I then asked him a follow up question, if his grandfather got to see him play in the NBA. He responded:

Not only did his grandfather not see him play in the NBA, Hill’s grandfather missed his grandson’s 2009-2010 break out season where averaged 12.4 ppg and nearly 30 minutes of play.

Michael Jordan Chicago Bulls Topps Error Card

The Topps ’93-94 No. 23 card (Jordan dunking) was printed with two different backs. The incorrect back reads No. “64″ and the correct back reads No. “23.” The No. 64 back actually belongs to the Michael Jordan 50 point club card pictured all the way to the right. For those of you that don’t believe me check out the less than professional video that I made (at the end of the post) to prove the error. Also, the No. 23 card incorrectly states Michael Jordan’s birth date as “4-3-68.” His actual birth date is 2-17-63.
