Shelden Williams Reveals to Pro Hoops Journal Why Unlucky Number 13 is Lucky for Him

It’s always fascinating to me why players choose the numbers they do. I asked Shelden Williams ┬ávia Twitter why he wore jersey number 13 (last year on the Celtics). Prior to asking, I thought it was just a random number he picked without any meaning. I just figured all of the popular numbers were already taken by the Celtics’ more well-known players. Also, its strange he chose number 13 because its generally known as a sign of bad luck and most people try to avoid it. Here was his response:

Two solid reasons for choosing the usually unlucky number 13. I salute you Mr. Williams for putting thought and effort into picking your jersey number. In your case, number 13 was lucky.
